(Seoul=NSP News Agency) ji young park Journalist = The Deli Shop, located in the Lobby of JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, reopened on October as “The Delicatessen” following a sweeping makeover.

Coming as The Deli's first renovation since the hotel opened in 2000, The Delicatessen maintains the trademark “modern luxury” concept of the JW Marriott brand while bringing additional space and a range of exciting new menu items.

The interior design is based on deep brown tones, conveying a sense of security, while the original luxury feel of the shop has been maintained, in harmony with newly-introduced elements of simplicity and modernity. Showcases, tables, chairs and other furniture items have been replaced, while the full glass façade offers clearer views from the outside, welcoming guests to the expanded space inside.

The newly-opened Delicatessen offers a menu of more than 30 new pastries created by Sin Tae-hwa, head of JW Marriott Hotel Seoul's Pastry Kitchen.

Highlights include classic Italian bread herb focaccia; tarte tatin with crunchy apples; buttery financiers, made with ground almonds and egg whites to create an irresistibly soft texture; and traditional French favorite sweet canelés. Danpatppang, the red bean paste-filled buns so popular among customers at The Deli, are reinvented with the addition of fresh cream, producing an even more irresistible taste, while naturally fermented breads, another hit item, remain on the menu.

The most eagerly awaited new item is the Floriad Cupcakes. Created by Chef Kim Hye-yeon, a rising star of the hotel Pastry Kitchen, these floriform cakes are available in a range of sizes, from small treats for one to large cakes for parties and other events.

Chef Kim planned the cake in consideration of the fact that the hotel hosts many special events for which guests sought one-of-a-kind, custom-made cakes: making a large cake in the shape of a flower is a labor-intensive endeavor that requires some seven to eight hours' work. Cakes range in price from KRW 15,000 for small to 80,000 for large, with prices for custom-made cakes varying according to size and design. These remarkable new cakes make the perfect gift with a touch of class for weddings, birthdays, proposals, Halloween, Christmas, and a variety of other events.

The Delicatessen also features a special showcase dedicated to Pierre Ledent, a fourth-generation master chocolatier from Belgium.

This global brand, boasting more than 100 years' experience in handmade chocolate and macaron making, currently only has one Korean store, in Busan: JW Marriott Hotel Seoul now brings it to the capital for the first time. Ledent's beautifully-packaged handmade chocolates and colorful macarons are favorite gifts among lovers and, together with Floriad Cupcakes, are one of The Delicatessen's most exciting new arrivals.

“I'm thrilled at the result of our first renovation since I took office two years ago,” says Matthew Cooper, General Manager of JW Marriott Hotel Seoul. “As well as its transformation to a more modern, luxurious interior, the newly-opened Delicatessen offers a much-enhanced range of items that are sure to draw the interest of customers and provide memorable experiences. I hope that sharing a Floriad Cupcake, our signature item, with someone special, will provide treasured memories for years to come.”
