(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = A team of Choi Kyung Man, Emeritus Professor, Dr. Kim Kun Jung, Jang Hyun Myung, Emeritus Professor and Dr. Han Hyun of Department of Materials Science & Engineering, POSTECH(Pohang University of Science and Technology) attracted attention by newly designing the catalyst structure which can enhance the efficiency of energy conversion and storage devices through the elution phenomena of nanocatalyst particles with a simple model research.

Previously, nanocatalyst particles were made by a vacuum deposition process, however, this method had a limit as it took a lot of manufacturing time and money, and especially the thermal instability was high.

However, the method of eluting nanocatalyst particles can solve the stability problem of nanocatalyst particles. In order to maximize the performance of the catalyst, it is very important to properly control the size and distribution of the nanocatalyst particles.

The research team then studied the characteristics of the elution phenomena determined by crystallographic aspects through a simple model research. It also discussed how the interfacial energy and lattice strain energy change the flake structure, size and distribution of eluted nanocatalyst particles.

As a result, it was found that relatively low interfacial energy or high lattice strain energy would be advantageous to design a catalyst structure that generally exhibits high performance.

If this technology is expanded and used in the actual process, it will be used as a material which enhances the efficiency of energy conversion and saving devices such as the development of all-solid batteries without explosion risk, next-generation fuel cells, and next-generation computing information storage memory where memory doesn’t disappear even when the power is off.
