(서울=NSP통신) soon ki Lee Journali = Hyundai E&C, which was selected as the world’s No. 1 in the ‘construction and engineering sector’ in 2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices(DJSI) evaluation, also ranked first among construction companies in violation of the Construction Waste Act.

In response, the National Assembly, ESG academia, and the industry responded that Hyundai E&C’s ESG management is “ironic”.

This points out Hyundai E&C, which is accelerating ESG management, including expanding its eco-friendly business, but on the other hand, is recording the disgrace of being ranked number one in violation of the Construction Waste Act.

The CEO of Hyundai E&C said, “We will do our best for right management based on ESG responsibility”, and Hyundai E&C has emphasized eco-friendly management through sustainability management reports and DJSI.

In contrast, Hyundai E&C has been found to have illegally reclaimed construction waste regardless of farmland, roads and housing sites over the past few years. In response, members of the National Assembly said, “ESG management is neglected.”

In response, the ESG academia said, “Construction waste containing hazardous substances such as asbestos pollutes groundwater and soil and has a fatal adverse effect on the growth of humans, animals and crops, adding “Hyundai E&C’s unauthorized discharge of construction waste and illegal reclamation are major flaws in ESG management, which is a matter of corporate ethics,”

Members of the National Assembly also agreed on the situation of Hyundai E&C, saying that it is an “act against ESG management.”

The construction industry also said, “Even if the contractor company illegally disposed of construction waste, the construction company is responsible for management and supervision,” adding, “In particular, ESG management’s image will be hit hard.”
