Hyundai Motor Group Establishes EV Ecosystem, Starting Kona Mass Production at Indonesian Battery Cell Plant

fullscreen(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Hyundai Motor Group, in collaboration with LG Energy Solution, has completed the construction of the HLI Green Power battery cell joint venture plant.
HLI Green Power, the first battery cell plant in Indonesia, is situated in the world's largest producer of nickel, a crucial mineral for batteries. The battery cells produced at this plant will be used in The All New Kona Electric, manufactured at Hyundai's Indonesian factory.
On the 3rd (local time), Hyundai Motor Group, along with the Indonesian government, held a ceremony at HLI Green Power to commemorate the completion of the EV ecosystem, celebrating both the inauguration of HLI Green Power and the mass production of the Kona Electric. Construction of HLI Green Power began in September 2021, with trial production starting in the second half of last year. The plant has been producing battery cells since the second quarter of this year. Covering a total area of 320,000㎡, the facility includes electrode processing, assembly, and activation processes. It has an annual production capacity of 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh), sufficient to supply batteries for more than 150,000 electric vehicles.
