ENX7, Read 0(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Hanwha Systems has signed a contract worth 39.8 billion won for the ‘Commercial Low-Orbit Satellite-based Communication System’ project led by Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute(DRATRI).
According to Hanwha Systems, this project is to link commercial low-orbit satellite communication networks with the existing tactical networks of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Hanwha Systems will be the first to supply a commercial low-orbit satellite-based communication system to the Korean military, using Eutelsat OneWeb’s low-orbit satellite communications network, which the company invested $300 million(KRW 345 billion at the exchange rate in 2021) to optimize the solution for the Korean military. By 2026, Hanwha Systems will be in charge of establishing a low-orbit communication network suitable for the military and developing mobile ESA(Electronically Steerable Antenna) terminals for vehicles and ships with increased security.
