(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Webzen has announced through a public disclosure that NCSoft has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the company.
The core issue of the lawsuit is that R2M allegedly imitates NCSoft’s game Lineage M. NCSoft is demanding KRW 60 billion in damages and a suspension of R2M's services.
The case is currently under review at the Seoul High Court and is an appeal following the first trial, where NCSoft won a partial but limited victory. In 2021, NCSoft initially filed the lawsuit, claiming that R2M, released by Webzen, was a copy of their popular game Lineage M.
Specifically, NCSoft argued that the game provided under the name"R2M"should not be release for public use or promoted, advertised, replicated, distributed, transmitted or altered.
Webzen has stated, “We will respond in accordance with legal procedures in consultation with our legal representatives,"regarding the next steps in the case.
