(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = OCI Holdings has officially broken ground on a new joint venture plant with a Japanese company, Tokuyama, in the Samalaju Industrial Park in Malaysia. The facility, named OTSM (OCI Tokuyama Semiconductor Materials), marks a strategic move to expand OCI’s presence in the high-tech materials sector, raising expectations to boost performance.
A company representative stated, “We have secured an environmentally friendly, high-purity production base to meet the growing needs of global customers,” adding that “synergies with our existing Gunsan plant will further strengthen our competitiveness in semiconductor materials.”
OTSM is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2027, with 8000 tons of annual mass production expected to begin in 2029 following product change notification (PCN) certification processes with clients. To ensure a stable power supply, the joint venture has signed a 10-year long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Sarawak Energy in Malaysia.
The plant will be built on approximately 40,000 pyeong (132,000 square meters) of idle land owned by OCI TerraSus (formerly OCI M) and will produce semiconductor-grade polysilicon with 99.999999999% purity, commonly referred to as 11-Nines. Currently, OCI Holdings produces 4,700 tons annually at its Gunsan facility, and the new joint venture is expected to significantly expand its global production capacity.
