(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = The Samsung family has completed the payment of KRW 12 trillion in inheritance tax on the estate of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee.

The bereaved family, including Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Leeum Museum of Art Honorary Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun, have paid inheritance tax in six installments through this year, starting with the first payment in 2021.

The inheritance tax was calculated based on the estate, which includes stakes in affiliates such as Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Electronics, and Samsung C&T, as well as real estate.

At the time of filing the inheritance tax return, the bereaved family stated that “paying taxes is a natural duty of citizens.”

Along with paying inheritance taxes, the Samsung family has also continued its social contributions in the medical and cultural fields.

In 2021, the bereaved family contributed KRW 700 billion to the National Medical Center to support the construction of a specialized infectious disease hospital and the expansion of research infrastructure. They also donated KRW 300 billion to Seoul National University Hospital to support children with pediatric cancer and rare diseases.

These funds are being used for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and rare diseases, joint clinical research, and the establishment of research infrastructure.

In addition, they donated over 23,000 works of art, including national treasures, to the state.

The ‘Lee Kun-hee Collection’ is being unveiled to the general public through domestic touring exhibitions and overseas exhibitions.

The Samsung family is continuing the social contribution philosophy of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee through the full payment of inheritance taxes and donations to medical and cultural causes.
