(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = Samsung Electronics (005930) plans to return approximately KRW 90 trillion to KRW 110 trillion to shareholders this year.
At a board meeting held on August 21, the company approved a shareholder return plan of an unprecedented scale for a Korean company. The planned amount is roughly five times the previous record of KRW 20.3 trillion set in 2020.
Samsung Electronics said the plan is in line with its existing policy of returning 50% of its free cash flow (FCF) generated from 2024 through 2026 to shareholders.
In the third quarter of this year, the company plans to pay approximately KRW 30 trillion in cash dividends, including its regular dividend, with the details to be finalized by the end of October.
The method and size of the remaining shareholder returns will be determined at a board meeting in January next year, after the company’s full-year financial results have been finalized.
Separately, Samsung Electronics also plans to repurchase approximately KRW 15 trillion worth of its own shares for employee compensation purposes.
