(Seoul=NSP News Agency) YEON SUN HAN Journalist = Samsung Electronics will produce the 2nd generation 8GB HBM2(High Bandwidth Memory) DRAM(Aquabolt™), with the fastest data transmission speed on the global market.
2nd generation 8GB HBM2 DRAM Aquabolt™, based on 1.2volt 2.4 gigabits-per-second(Gbps) will offer 307 gigabytes-per-second (GBps) data bandwith, equivalent to 61 pieces of full HD moive(5GB) data and achieves 9.6 times faster data transmission than an current high performing graphic DRAM(8 gigabit GDDR5, 8Gps), which provides a 32GBps data bandwidth.
Especially, using four of the new HBM2 packages in a system will enable a 1.2 terabytes-per-second bandwidth, which will improve overall system performance by as much as 50 percent, compared to a system 0.82TB that uses a 1.6Gbps HBM2.
Jaesoo Han, executive vice president, Memory Sales & Marketing team at Samsung Electronics said “With our production of the 2nd generation 8GB HBM2 DRAM, we are further strengthening our technology leadership and market competitiveness,” and added “We will continue to reinforce our unrivaled command of the premium DRAM market by assuring a stable supply in accordance with the timing of anticipated next-generation system launches by our customers.”
