(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = LG Energy Solution signed an MOU with Compass Minerals in the US on the supply of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. This is the first time that LG Energy Solution has signed a business agreement with a US lithium producer.

Through this MOU, LG Energy Solution will receive 40% of the eco-friendly lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide produced by Compass Minerals for 7 years from 2025.

Compass Minerals, a global mineral company, is currently pursuing the development of lithium resources to enter the electric vehicle battery market.

It produces potassium sulfate and magnesium chloride using the Great Salt Lake located in Utah, USA, and plans to produce lithium using brine(lake water containing lithium) discarded in the process. In particular, brine is characterized by lower carbon emissions than existing lithium producers.

LG Energy Solution signed a long-term lithium supply contract with SQM in Chile, one of the world’s largest lithium producers, and Vulcan Energy in Germany, until 2029, and long-term contracts with Sigma Lithium in Brazil, a mining company that produces lithium concentrate(lithium raw material), and Liontown in Australia.
