(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = LG Display is demonstrating a trend of ‘leading’ display technology competitiveness by mass-producing the world’s first LCD panels for laptops with a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz.

This panel is characterized by its ability to automatically adjust the refresh rate according to the usage environment. On a static screen, it minimizes power consumption with a low refresh rate of 1 Hz, and switches to a maximum of 120 Hz when playing videos or games to deliver smooth visuals. In particular, the application of an oxide-based TFT reduces power leakage in low refresh rate ranges and enables high-efficiency operation. As a result, battery life is reported to have improved by more than 48% compared to the previous model.

This panel is supplied to the “XPS,” the premium lineup of global PC manufacturer Dell. This is significant because it demonstrates that the technology has moved beyond development to actual implementation by a client. In particular, as power consumption increases due to the growing demand for AI processing, battery efficiency technology is emerging as a key factor in laptop competitiveness. LG Display plans to apply this technology to OLED panels in the future and aims to begin mass production in 2027. The company’s strategy is to expand its energy-efficient technologies and reduce carbon emissions through this initiative.
