[부산=NSP통신] 권성란 인턴기자 = ‘평화, 이제 우리들의 몫입니다’를 주제로 국제평화기념사업회(이사장 김정훈 국회의원)와 부산 남구 5개대학 청년들이 주관한 UN 평화대축전이 지난 25일 문현곱창 축제를 끝으로 내년 세계청년축제로의 도약을 기약하며 3박4일간의 대장정을 마무리했다.

이번 축전은 세계 첫 유엔평화특구로서의 위상을 알리는 단초로서 부산시민들은 물론 전 국민들에게 평화를 전하고자 하는 청년들의 메시지를 담았다는 데 그 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

청년들은 대학생답게 평화를 학술제로 풀어내려는 노력과 축전 시작전부터 거리공연을 통해 붐을 조성하고 국적과 인종을 넘어 누구나 빠르게 친구가 될 수 있는 ‘클럽’문화를 도입하는 등 다른 축제들과는 다른 시도로 그들만의 청년축제로 승화시켰다는 평을 받고 있다.

이명박 대통령과 반기문 유엔사무총장, 오마바 미국대통령, 캐나다 스티븐 하퍼 총리, 룩셈부르크 장 클로드 융커 총리, 미 국방부 리언 페네타 장관 등 전세계 지도자들로부터 축하 서신이 날라들어 세계적인 청년축제로써 발돋움할 수 있는 기틀을 다지는 성과를 이뤄냈다.

국내에서도 유래를 찾을 수 없는 부경대 경성대 동명대 부산외국어대 부산예술대 등 지역 5개 대학이 뭉쳐 축제를 만들어냄으로써 화합과 평화를 청년들이 앞장서 실천하는 청년축제로써 약간의 볼거리와 행사를 더한 다면 충분히 부산의 4대 축제로 자리매김할 수 있는 충분한 가능성을 보여줬다.

어린이의 마음으로 평화를 그리는 ‘CHALK4PEACE’와 프리허그, 평화학술제, 음악회와 각종 사진전, 평화의 집짓기 등 어린아이에서부터 노인들에 이르기까지 평화를 얘기하고 전쟁의 기억을 되새길 수 있는 진정한 평화의 축제가 됨으로써 모든 세대가 공감하고 참여하는 행사로 기획된 것은 이들 젊은이들이 있었기 때문이다.

대학생들로 이뤄진 UN 평화대축전 서포터즈 들과 초.중생들과 어머니들로 구성된 유엔평화지킴이 봉사단이 전 행사 운영에 참여했다는 것도 이번 행사가 올림픽을 연상하듯 여느 축제들과는 분명 차별화됐음을 보여줬다.

지킴이들은 이번 축전동안 수해를 입은 태국의 아이들에게 보낼 기금을 모금하기 위해 몇 달동안 알뜰시장에서 팔 옷가지와 장신구 등을 한두 개씩 모았으며 총학생회는 밤낮없이 대축전을 준비하는데 총력을 기울였다.

5개 대학 총학생회는 각각의 분야에 투입돼 기획과 진행을 맡았으며, 서포터즈와 봉사단은 운영에 참여함으로써 진정한 시민축제가 진정 무엇인지 보여주는 장이었다.

축전 추진위원장을 맡은 부경대 총학생회 구자영(27. 건축학과) 회장은 “긴 여정이었고 모험이었다. 하지만 5개 대학 총학생회는 뭉쳐야 했다. 우리가 먼저 화합을 보여줘야 했으며 그래서 여기까지 올 수 있었다. 이제 젊은이들이 평화를 외쳐야 할 때다. UN평화 대축전은 바로 그 시작이다”고 말했다.

개막식 날부터 이틀간 내린 비로 찾는 이들이 기대해 비해 적었다는 것은 아쉬움으로 남았지만 부산의 젊음을 대표하는 대학로에서 펼쳐진 만큼 내년에는 충분한 시간을 갖고 더욱 알차게 준비한다면 부산의 4대 축제가운데 가장 많은 볼거리와 행사로 외국인들이 가장 많이 찾는 축제로 거듭날 수 있을 것으로 전망된다.

이제 축전은 막을 내렸지만 제1회를 주관한 국제기념사업회와 젊은이들에게는 이 축전을 세계청년축제로 승화시켜 나가기 위해 세계청년들을 축전으로 이끌어 내고 ‘평화’를 전하기 위한 전 세계 국가의 메시지를 담아내야 하는 숙제가 남았다.

김 이사장은 “이제 겨우 평화를 얘기할 준비를 마쳤다. 진정한 평화를 얘기하려면 진실된 마음이 있어야 한다. 우리는 내년에 전 세계 청년들을 이 자리에 모아 이념과 갈등으로 얼룩진 전 세계 국가들에게 세계청년들의 진실된 ‘마음’을 담아 진정한 ‘평화’를 외칠 것이다”고 밝혔다.

“The UN peace festival paves the way for the leap to the international festival by young people.”

The festival which was held by Commemorative Organization for World Peace(The chairmans are Kim Jeong-Hun of a member of the National Assembly and Park Maeng Un of president of Pukyong National university) and 5 universities located in Nam-gu came to an end on October 25th. The subject of the UN peace festival is ‘Now, peace is our share'.

The festival is only peace festival for UN. And also, the festival was expected to inform entire nation of peaceful messages by young people.

The young people tried to make a festival in a university student manner. They stimulated a boom through the street performances before the festival and introduced 'club' culture to become friends fast regardless of race and nationality. They made their own festival as another attempt. And this attempt is highly appreciated.

World leaders such as President Lee Myung-Bak, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. President Barack Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Luxembourgian Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, American Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and so on celebrated the UN peace festival.

This means that the UN peace festival can develop into international festival.

The 5 universities(Pukyong National university, Kyungsung university, Tongmyong university, Busan university of foreign studies and Busan arts college) located in Nam-gu gathered to make a festival for peace and harmony of the world.

It would be difficult to find past examples of such attempt. The UN peace festival showed possibility that the festival can become the festival representing Busan.

There were many events such as CHALK4PEACE drawing the peace with the hearts of children, free hug, academic conference of peace, peace concert, various exhibitions, house building of peace and so on in the UN peace festival for all ages.

These events made it possible that many citizen felt peace in the true sense of the word. All of these things can be attributed to young people's hard work.

Supporters of UN peace festival and the UN peace corps consisting of university students and mothers respectively worked on the all events of the festival. This reminded us of the Olympics.

The UN peace corps collected clothes and accessories to donate some money to Thailand's children. And, student councils of 5 universities devoted all their energy to prepare the festival.

Student councils of 5 universities were in charge of making a plan and running all events. The UN peace corps also participated in managing the festival. Their effort showed sincere festival made by citizens.

Pukyong National university' student council president Koo Ja-Yeong(27, the Department of Construction Engineering) was a general manager for the UN peace festival.

He said that"It was a long journey and adventure. But, student councils of 5 universities had to cooperate with each other. We had to show harmony. So, we could achieve the goal. And now, young people have to cry out for peace. The UN peace festival is the beginning of that."

There were not many visitors in the UN peace festival for 2 days from the opening ceremony due to the rainy weather.

However, if we prepare the festival with enough time and various spectacles, the UN peace festival can be expected to become the festival that many foreigners visit.

Commemorative Organization for World Peace and young people have to attract young people around the world to the UN peace festival and inform the nations of the world of real peace in order to make international festival.

The chairman Kim Jeong-Hun said that"we are just ready for crying out for peace. To say the real peace, there must be true heart. We will tell the world stained with ideologies and conflicts about the real peace with true heart of young people around the world."
